Mural Group Industrial is hiring one Certified Crane Operator for a travel contract at a major steel manufacturing facility in Apple Grove, West Virginia. The project is expected to run 3 or more months with real potential to extend. Per diem applies. This position starts immediately.
You will be the crane operator for a structural steel silo modification project at an active steel plant. A crew of 16 structural welders is performing an extensive welding program on four large square steel silos. Your primary responsibility is rotating each silo 90 degrees at key stages of the welding sequence so the crew can access and work all four sides of each structure. The silos are lying on their sides at ground level with a working wall height of 12 to 14 feet. This is precision industrial lifting at an active facility with limited site space and active contractor traffic around you.
Beyond the primary silo rotation lifts, you will support the crew with any additional lifting needs that arise during the project.
Current, verifiable NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification or equivalent state certification -- this is a hard requirement; the facility will verify credentials on day one and uncertified operators will not be permitted on site
Hands-on crane operation experience in a heavy industrial plant environment -- steel mill, fabrication yard, refinery, shipyard, or similar. Commercial high-rise construction tower crane experience without industrial plant exposure is not sufficient for this environment.
Comfort coordinating precision lifts with a ground crew in a space-constrained, active facility
Understanding of rigging, load calculations, and lift planning -- experience with rigging certification (NCCCO Rigger Level I or II) is a strong plus
Willingness to travel and commit to a 3-plus month project -- per diem applies, national travel pool
Ability to pass a 7-year background check and both urine and hair drug screening -- required by the facility, non-negotiable
Competitive hourly rate based on experience and certification depth -- per diem for all travel and lodging
A well-organized project site with an experienced field crew and clear technical specifications
