Job summary

Trinity Health IHA Medical Group is seeking a Certified Coding Specialist to ensure accurate surgical coding and support across specialties. The role emphasizes reviewing operative notes, applying CPT/diagnosis codes, and maintaining high coding accuracy to support clean claims and compliant documentation.

Ideal candidates bring at least 2 years of professional coding experience and credentials (CPC, CMC, CCS-P) with ongoing specialty certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: AAPC CPC, PMIC CMC, AHIMA CCS-P or equivalent; advanced specialty certification encouraged.
• MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years of professional coding experience required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews surgical operative notes and assigns CPT and diagnosis codes.
• Maintains knowledge of CPT coding and diagnosis guidelines and ensures compliance.
• Notifies providers of coding and documentation updates as needed.
• Maintains 90% accuracy of surgical coding.
• Enters surgical charges into the EMR system.
• Keeps open query communication with providers to address documentation issues affecting revenue or compliance.

Trinity Health IHA Medical Group is looking for a customer-focused Certified Coding Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will facilitate proper medical coding for general and specialty surgery procedures, add-on codes and other services. Is considered a subject matter expert in the codes and terminologies used in multiple specialties.

What You\'ll Do

• Reviews providers’ surgical operative notes and assigns CPT and diagnosis codes.
• Maintains complete knowledge and complies with all relevant insurance, CPT coding and diagnosis guidelines
• Informs provider of coding and documentation updates as necessary.
• Maintains 90% accuracy of surgical coding.
• Enters surgical charges into electronic medical system.
• Maintains query communication with providers to ensure timely notification of identified documentation issues that may impact revenue or compliance.

General Requirements

• EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.
• CREDENTIALS/LICENSURE: One of the following certifications is required: AAPC (CPC), PMIC (CMC), AHIMA (CCS-P). Also required: Advanced certification through AAPC in the specialty.
• MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years of professional coding experience required.
