Job summary

Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, MN seeks a Medical Coding Specialist for 1.0 FTE daytime shift. Starting pay ranges from $24.57 to $36.86 per hour, depending on experience.

The role involves assigning ICD-10, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, modifiers and CPT codes, using DRG and APC groupers, and monitoring payer guidelines to ensure accurate reimbursement. A strong coding background and RHIT or CPC certification are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy required.
  • RHIT or CPC certification or accreditation preferred.
  • One year coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns ICD-10, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, modifiers, and CPT codes.
  • Utilizes DRG and APC groupers and other software to ensure optimal reimbursement.
  • Assists in data collection for concurrent chart reviews on admissions.
  • Keeps current with payer guidelines by reviewing monthly bulletins.
  • Monitors documentation timeliness to identify areas for improvement.
  • Assists in monitoring pre-claim edit data to ensure correct claims are billed.
  • Manages work list for denials and insurance inquiries.
  • Works on departmental reports as assigned.
  • Attends training to stay current with coding guidelines.
