Description:

This position is a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) position that will perform both front and back office duties.

This position is part of our East region Primary Care PRN Pool, which encompasses five counties: Athens, Gwinnett, Newton, Rockdale, and Walton.

JOB PURPOSE:

Responsible for providing a variety of patient care activities under the supervision of a physician, physician extender, or registered nurse, in accordance with established guidelines and standards. Duties include front office and back office functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Meet and greet patients.
  2. Obtain appropriate patient information and medical history.
  3. Accurately document patient medical and physical histories in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  4. Record vital signs; perform EKG, spirometry, and other similar non-complex procedures.
  5. Assist the physician, extender, or nursing staff during treatment, examination, or testing, including injections and immunizations.
  6. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas.
  7. Maintain examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment.
  8. Under supervision, distribute educational information and instructions for patient care and diagnostics.
  9. Coordinate prescription refills according to physician instructions.
  10. Notify physician or nurse of adverse reactions to medications or treatments.
  11. Attend meetings, in-services, and participate in committees as required.
  12. Practice Standard Precautions, including handwashing and bio-hazard disposal.
  13. Comply with risk management, HIPAA, and safety procedures.
  14. Perform front office duties such as registration, cashiering, appointment scheduling, tests, and hospital admissions.
  15. Perform lab duties including phlebotomy, order entry, specimen collection, and labeling.
  16. Schedule procedures.
  17. Complete medical and physical history forms for third-party payors.
  18. Handle incoming calls from patients and respond under guidance.
  19. Notify patients of test results as directed.
  20. May serve as primary clinical support for a physician.
  21. Establish, organize, and maintain patient medical records.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education Required:

High School diploma or GED required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program is required, or two years of related clinical experience in lieu of formal education.

Minimum Experience Required:

One year of experience in a medical office setting with completion of a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program, or two years of related clinical experience without formal education.

Minimum Licensure/Certification:

None required by law. BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
