Job summary

The City of Rock Hill is seeking a Building Inspector to inspect commercial and residential construction for code compliance, on-site and in the field. The role requires reading plans, reviewing electrical, plumbing and mechanical details, and enforcing building codes and zoning regulations.

Requires an Associate degree or two years of college in a related field, plus four years of inspection experience; ICC certifications and a valid driver’s license are required within two years.

Qualifications

• Requires Associate’s Degree or two years college in related field.
• Four years in commercial and residential building inspection.
• Ability to obtain ICC residential/commercial inspector licenses within two years.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly inspects commercial and residential construction for code and zoning compliance.
• Reviews building plans, geotechnical reports and drawings to determine compliance.
• Prepares inspection reports and notices of correction; follows up on corrections.
• Communicates with contractors, engineers, architects and owners regarding procedures.
• Maintains required continuing education credits for certifications.
• Performs inspections and responds to inquiries after hours as needed.
