ATHLETIC TRAINER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Certified Athletic Trainer
Reports to: Athletic Director
Nature and Scope of Job: To provide athletic training services to student athletes engaged in interscholastic athletic activities conducted by Uxbridge High School.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid certification
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Some physical activity and light lifting may be required
Job Function and Responsibilities:
The Athletic Trainer shall:
- Provide and assist with preventative programs as needed, including physical conditioning, equipment safety, and field safety.
- Provide athletic injury management, including injury recognition, functional evaluations, supervision of rehabilitation, return to play guidelines, and appropriate application of protective taping, padding, wrapping, bracing, or dressing. Stay updated with research-based strategies for ATC’s.
- Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments.
- Provide appropriate preventive services such as strengthening exercises, stretching, taping, wrapping, padding, and bracing.
- Make medical referrals to physicians when warranted and inform parents, school nurse, and athletic director of said referrals.
- Develop and maintain a Plan of Care with the School Nurse and School Physician, when applicable.
- Communicate with ambulance services, EMTs, and all medical staff when appropriate.
- Develop and maintain protocols for emergency care with the approval of the School Nurse and Athletic Director, and keep coaches informed of the Emergency Action Plan.
- Develop and maintain updated concussion guidelines with the District Physician.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with the school nurses and other medical staff, help maintain updated clearance lists, and be aware of students’ medical conditions and individual plans of care.
- Ensure the training room is maintained in an orderly, functional, and sanitary manner.
- Create and maintain a positive training room environment for student-athletes.
- Attend athletic events as scheduled in consultation with the athletic director, providing athletic training services during contests for both home and visiting teams.
- Develop and manage a budget for athletic training supplies.
- Serve as a liaison between student-athletes, parents, coaches, physicians, and specialists.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student athletes on and off the field.
- Adhere to MIAA and district policies regarding athletic participation and safety, including medical safety and clearance.
- Protect the confidentiality of student records and information.
- Maintain professional and ethical relationships with colleagues, coaches, parents, student-athletes, and external agencies.
- Assist the Athletic Director with other duties within the scope of athletic training.
- Administer and keep records of concussion-related testing and protocols, collaborating with the school nurse regarding clearance and return to play or academic participation.
- Communicate injury needs and concerns to parents promptly.
SALARY: The athletic trainer will be paid an annual salary.
SCHEDULE: The schedule will be established in consultation with the athletic director.
