Position Overview
The Certification Engineer is a highly skilled engineering professional who provides expertise within the engineering team. The role is responsible for submitting, maintaining, and providing certification guidance on New Product Development projects as well as existing product enhancements, serving as a subject matter expert in engineering projects related to the development of ISC products while maintaining the highest quality standards. The position works closely with various groups to ensure a properly designed product is released to production.
Responsibilities And Deliverables
- Participate in the coordination of all aspects of the certification process within ISC.
- Participate in cross‑functional team meetings and design reviews to provide standards and regulatory input for product specification and scoping.
- Coordinate projects with 3rd‑party certification bodies such as UL, CSA, MSHA, and DEKRA to obtain global hazardous locations approvals (Class 1 Division 1 and Zone 0, intrinsically safe) on portable gas detection equipment.
- Support and resolve certification‑related technical support questions and internal customer requests.
- Maintain current certifications for ISC products and review proposed changes to products to ensure compliance.
- Participate in standards development activities that are relevant to ISC products.
- Support the global design team of mechanical and electrical hardware to receive agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, ANZEx, INMETRO, MSHA, etc.).
- Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation for submission to certification bodies.
- Support quarterly certification audits internally and externally.
- Follow, enforce, and mature the company engineering processes.
- Domestic and international travel to certification locations (travel <10%).

Required Experience / Competencies
- 1‑2 years of experience as a degreed Electrical Engineer with a focus on product certification.
- Awareness or knowledge of products designed for intrinsically safe hazardous environments.

- Experience working with 3rd‑party offshore teams for new product and product life‑cycle maintenance.
- Strong experience using solder equipment and mechanical tools.
- Experience with battery‑operated low‑power designs.
- Some working knowledge of wireless communication protocols (BLE, WiFi, Cellular, etc.).
- Experience with gas detection instrumentation.
- Proficiency in using Windchill PLM, Oracle EBS, and JIRA.
- Demonstrated understanding of Stage‑Gate and Agile development processes.
- Experience with simulation tools, electronic lab tools, including power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university or equivalent degree/experience.
Benefits
- This position is also eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.
Pay Range
Pittsburgh: $70,600 – $117,900
