Job summary

Steilacoom Historical School District No. 1 is seeking a Certificated Substitute Teacher for district-wide locations. The position is temporary, with a daily pay of $200, and requires a valid Washington State teaching certificate.

Successful applicants will be expected to fulfill at least two substitute jobs per month, teaching across elementary classrooms as needed while prioritizing student safety and welfare and following district curriculum and assessment practices.

Qualifications

• Incumbents must have successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
• Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited college/university or currently in a student teaching role.
• Possess or qualify to attain a valid Washington State teaching certificate.
• Experience creating a caring classroom environment that is orderly, purposeful and facilitates student learning.
• Demonstrated skill or experience supporting students with disabilities.
• Understanding of how injustice or racial inequity may impact students and families in school.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
• Skill and ability to utilize technology to aid instruction, assessment and learning.
• Strong relationship-building and networking skills to connect with community resources.
• Ability to meet punctuality and attendance expectations.

Responsibilities

• Substitute teachers follow district-approved curriculum, instruction and assessment practices.
• Prioritize student safety and welfare and readiness to learn with guidance and discipline as needed.
• May teach in various elementary classrooms, individually or in team settings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Substitute teachers are primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. Primary responsibility shall include student safety and appropriate collaboration and attention to each student's readiness to learn including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare. Employee may teach in a variety of elementary classrooms individually or team teaching, settings.
