Job summary

Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY is seeking a Cert Sterile Processing Tech to support decontamination, sterilization, packaging, and distribution across the facility. The role requires leadership to mentor staff and assist the manager in developing junior personnel.

Responsibilities include maintaining supplies, ensuring equipment availability, and adhering to safety and department standards while participating in ongoing education. 40 hours weekly with varied shifts, located at Unity Hospital.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sterile processing.
  • Successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam with one of the listed credentials.
  • Certification required within 18 months of hire.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in mentoring or precepting preferred.

  • Applies advanced skills in decontamination, cleaning, packing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical equipment across the hospital and affiliates.
  • Serves as a mentor and trainer, guiding junior staff and assisting in training new employees.

  • Upholds cleanliness, safety, and department standards; participates in ongoing education.

Job description

Job Title: Cert Sterile Processing TechDepartment: Sterile ProcessingLocation: Unity Hospital - 1555 Long Pond RoadRochester, NY 14626Hours Per Week: 40 hrs.Schedule: Monday - Friday 3pm-11:30pm, 11pm-7:30am varied shifts, one weekend per month required.SUMMARY: Acts in a mentoring capacity over Sterile Processing staff, utilizing leadership skills to assist manager in development and growth of junior staff. Provides hospital and affiliated facilities with processed material and equipment ensuring a quality product at an effective cost for patient care by executing established procedures for decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution.RESPONSIBILITIES:Sterile Processing Expertise: Applies advanced skills in decontamination, cleaning, packing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical equipment across the hospital and affiliates.Mentorship and Training: Serves as a resource for resolving complex issues, provides guidance to junior staff, and may assist in training new employees.Inventory and Supply Management: Maintains and replenishes sterilization supplies, ensures availability of equipment, and follows established policies for distribution and stock maintenance.Safety, Cleanliness, and Compliance: Upholds cleanliness and organization of assigned areas, adheres to protective measures, and completes ongoing education and training per department standards.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3 years’ experience in sterile processing Successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam and holds and maintains one of the following credentials:Certified Registered Central Service Technician credentialCertified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician credentialCentral Service Technician certification required within 18 months of hirePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and work experienceExperience in mentoring or preceptingCompletion of associates’ level coursework in clinical fieldEDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:H - Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
