Job summary

Haywood Regional Medical Center in North Carolina is seeking a Central Sterile Tech for PRN shifts to support the operating room. You will prepare sterile fields, handle instruments, assist with patient transport and processing of specimens, contributing to patient safety and efficient case flow.

The team operates Monday–Friday with night, weekend and holiday call rotations, offering opportunities for professional growth and a comprehensive benefits package to eligible staff.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS required within six months of hire.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • ASLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
  • Passes instruments to physician during surgery; accounts for instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.

The operating room is equipped with six beds and handles an average of 400 cases per month. The scope of procedures includes a diverse range of specialties: Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Cataract and Retinal Eye surgeries, Gynecologic, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic, Orthopedic, Pain Management, Plastic and Reconstructive, and Gastroenterological surgeries. The majority of cases are general and orthopedic. Surgical operations are conducted Monday through Friday, with additional night, weekend, and holiday call rotations to ensure continuous coverage.

How you'll contribute
  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
  • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
  • Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.

What we're looking for

Applicants should possess a high school degree or GED. Additional requirements include:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
