Job summary

Richmond University Medical Center in New York is seeking a Central Sterile Technician for the night shift to support patient care by decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing and distributing surgical instruments.

Under supervision, you will follow AAMI/AORN standards, perform routine sterilizer tests, handle instrument sets, and maintain infection control while working with a dedicated team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma.
• Central Sterile certification.
• BLS Certification.
• Previous experience in a comparable position.
• Excellent communication skills, including reading, writing and verbal skills.
• Heavy lifting (40lbs) and pushing of instrument carts.

Responsibilities

• Processes surgical instruments and equipment: decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization and distribution.
• Performs daily tests on sterilizers and follows written procedures.
• Receives soiled instruments and prepares them for reprocessing according to procedures.
• Packages instrument sets correctly and maintains instrument tracking.
• Adheres to infection control practices and hospital policies.

This includesdecontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution of instruments in accordance with established AAMI,AORN, Infection Control, and hospital policies.This position functions as an individual contributor and does not include responsibility for directing or supervising other staff.Responsibilities:· Demonstrates knowledge of all sterilization methods.· Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique.· Performs and prepares required daily tests for all sterilizers following written procedures.· Takes requests from other departments and fills requests accurately and timely.· Issues and returns equipment and timely. Issues and returns equipment and maintains patient charges.· Receives soiled instruments, equipment, accessories from user departments and according to written procedures,separates, decontaminates and processes.· Examines and tests all instruments according to procedures.· Sorts, identifies, prepares and correctly packages instruments sets according to written protocol.· Demonstrates knowledge and applied skills in the loading and unloading of sterilizers; cooling and handling of sterilegoods and preparing transport of sterile supplies.· Transports soiled instruments for reprocessing and returns sterile goods using transport carts approved for thisservice.· Assures sterility by inspecting all packages for cleanliness and integrity.
