Position Overview

At Highpointe Surgery Center, exceptional patient care starts behind the scenes. We're looking for a detail-oriented Central Processing Technician to join our team and play a vital role in keeping our surgical operations safe, efficient, and ready for every procedure. In this position, you'll be responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment - ensuring our clinical teams have exactly what they need, when they need it. Responsibilities
Sterilization and Decontamination
  • Receive used surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies from various departments within the healthcare facility.
  • Disassemble, clean, and decontaminate instruments and equipment using appropriate techniques and equipment, such as ultrasonic cleaners and sterilization machines.
  • Inspect items for damage or defects and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Follow strict protocols and standards to ensure that all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and free from contaminants.
Instrument Assembly and Packaging
  • Sort, assemble, and package sterilized instruments and equipment according to specific procedures and protocols.
  • Ensure that instrument sets are complete and properly organized for use in surgical procedures.
  • Label packages with relevant information, such as sterilization dates and expiration dates.
Sterile Supply Management
  • Maintain an inventory of sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Monitor supply levels and reorder items as needed to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Rotate stock to prevent expired items from being used in patient care.
  • Properly store sterilized items in designated storage areas to maintain sterility.
Quality Control and Assurance
  • Conduct routine quality control checks on sterilization equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Perform biological and chemical indicators tests to verify the effectiveness of the sterilization process.
  • Document sterilization processes, quality control checks, and inventory management activities accurately and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, including nurses, surgeons, and central supply staff.
  • Communicate any issues or concerns regarding sterilization processes or equipment to the appropriate personnel.
  • Work closely with infection control staff to maintain a safe and sterile environment.
Adherence to Policies and Regulations
  • Adhere to all surgery center policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to sterile processing and infection control.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions for the proper handling, cleaning, and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to ethical standards in the healthcare field.
Continuing Education
  • Stay updated on best practices, guidelines, and regulations related to sterile processing through ongoing education and training.
  • Maintain certification through continuing education requirements and professional development activities.
