Job Description for Surgical Instrument Technician
To perform duties necessary for the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution, and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures.
Eligible candidates will be offered a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 based on their years of experience!
Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job titles based on their experience and education.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and assemble surgical tray and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
- Conform and adhere to department policies concerning decontamination, sterile processing, infection control, and safety.
- Maintain knowledge of, and effectively troubleshoot, all decontamination/sterilization equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to meet emergency situations.
- Utilize performance improvement tools and techniques to continuously improve quality of care and work environment, sharing learnings across units.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, translating information for care providers, negotiating, and recommending changes to unit practices. Document comprehensively to promote communication and demonstrate critical thinking in clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.
- Build and maintain productive relationships through mentoring, positive communication, and cultural awareness. Address workplace issues like horizontal violence and impairment. Demonstrate accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.

- Monitor, interpret, and document sterilizer parameters to ensure proper function.

- Assess supplies needed for surgical procedures, set up case carts, and maintain inventory. Collect, disassemble, inspect, clean, disinfect, and reassemble all instrument trays and patient care equipment.
