Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join the Ambul Surg Ctr-Sawgrass team in Rochester, NY. You will prepare instruments, maintain sterile processing standards, and support OR staff with essential instrument care and documentation.

Minimum education includes a high school diploma (or equivalent) with related processing training or experience. Certifications CRCST/CSPDT within 1.5 years are required, along with strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of experience or REOC Sterile Processing Training Program.
• Previous OR or medical/surgical experience preferred.
• Must pass central service exam and obtain CRCST/CSPDT within 1.5 years.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists clinical staff by providing assistive/advocacy services.

Responsibilities

• Prepares instruments, equipment and supplies adhering to principles of sterile techniques utilizing technical knowledge.
• Responsible for proper care and handling of instruments.
• Assists the clinical staff by performing assistive/advocacy services in caring for the patient.
• ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Follows policies, protocols, techniques and manufacturer's guidelines when reprocessing and assembling and maintaining specialized instruments and equipment utilized in the operating room and patient care area.
• Responsible for proper care of instruments and equipment, ensuring utilization is in accordance with manufacturers' guidelines.
• Initiates and/or participates in quality assurance and continuous quality monitoring and utilizes results to initiate/recommend changes as indicated.
• Documents required information and maintains records for instruments and equipment.
• Undertakes continuous education and trains in all areas of sterile processing, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations.
• Identifies, pick, distributes supplies and stock items, including equipment requests and delivers to appropriate areas.
• Monitors stock levels and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing.
• Responsible for providing biological and chemical test solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience or completion of REOC Sterile Processing Training Program required Or equivalent combination of education and experience Previous operating room or medical/surgical experience in a health care facility preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• If hired on or after January 1, 2014, candidate must pass a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and hold and maintain one of the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician within 1-1/2 years required
• CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech within 1-1/2 years required
• a substantially equivalent credential within 1-1/2 years required
