Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Central Processing Technician III to ensure the delivery of surgical instruments and supplies with a 40-hour evening schedule, working every third weekend when needed.

Job description

Position

Central Processing Technician III (CP Tech III)

Schedule: 40 hours, evenings, every 3rd weekend as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties of CP Tech I and II, meeting or exceeding BMC and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors, the Clinical Educator, and the Training Coordinator to provide instruction and preceptorship to CP Tech IIs and Is.
  • Ensure availability and delivery of surgical modules, instruments, and other supplies to surgical suites, labor & delivery, ambulatory surgery, and other departments.
  • Maintain open oral, written, telephone, and electronic communication with all health care team members.
  • Identify, locate, and print MD preference cards from the CP Department’s computer system and facilitate quality and service improvement.
  • Coordinate the CP Tech Team to maintain instrument supply carts at PAR levels.
  • Maintain detailed records, including accurate written logs and computer-generated labels.
  • Complete assigned work on time to enable the department to achieve its mission.
Education and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) by IAHCSMM, or Central Sterile Professional Department Technician (CSPDT) by ASHCSP with annual CEU maintenance.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in collecting, cleaning, decontaminating, packing, and storing sterile instruments per industry standards.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Proficiency with department equipment: sonic, Sterrad, Steris, Ethylene Oxide (ETO), and steam sterilizers.
  • Experience with MS DOS-based Microsoft Office and touch-screen inventory and kit assembly applications.
  • Excellent oral, written, telephone, and electronic communication in English.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking, and deadline management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate a diverse team of CP Techs and interpret medical terminology and abbreviations.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $26.33–$34.75 per hour.
