Corewell Health's Grosse Pointe Hospital is seeking a Full-time Sterile Processing Technician to support instrument processing and distribution in the OR and ancillary areas.

The role focuses on inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, and testing instruments per AAMI standards, prioritizing according to surgical schedules, and maintaining high quality with minimal defects. Shift is 3:00 PM–11:30 PM, Monday through Friday, at the Grosse Pointe site.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of sterile processing program required.
• CSPDT or CRCST certification within 1 year required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, disinfect, assemble, process and distribute patient care instruments per established policies and AAMI standards.
• Prioritize processing based on surgical schedules and physician needs.
• Test equipment with insulation and leak testers to ensure sterilization.
• Monitor sterilization equipment and submit repair requests as needed.
• Serve as a role model and resource to peers; respond professionally to inquiries.

Scope of work

Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled.

Instrument Processing & Sterilization

• Cleans and inspects soiled instruments using proper PPE.
• Tests equipment with tools like insulation and leak testers to ensure sterilization.
• Assembles instruments per established standards and IFUs.

Quality & Accuracy

• Strives for zero defects through thorough inspections.
• Maintains a low error rate and high productivity.

Team Support & Communication

• Serves as a role model and resource for peers.
• Responds to phone requests and departmental issues professionally.

Workflow & Prioritization

• Prioritizes processing based on surgical schedules and physician needs.
• Handles vendor trays and complex instrumentation efficiently.

Technical Proficiency

• Differentiates instrument functionality and specialties.
• Monitors sterilization equipment and submits repair requests as needed.
• Expertly assembles high-complexity trays like implants and ambulatory kits.

Customer Service

• Ensures timely, professional handling of all customer area requests.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent Required
• Successful completion of sterile processing program (internal or external) Required
• Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) – CBSPD - Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution within 1 year Required Or
• Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) – IAHCSMM - International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management within 1 year Required
