Job summary

Corewell Health's Troy Hospital is seeking a Part-time Central Processing Technician to assist in overseeing the workflow of CPD Tech I staff and students in accordance with AAMI standards.

You'll support the processing of instruments, address equipment and supply issues, and contribute to staff development on shift while ensuring safe, sterile equipment for the OR teams and surgeons.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of relevant sterile processing experience.
• Successful completion of sterile processing program required.
• CSPDT or CRCST certification required upon hire.

• Oversee and direct the workflow of Central Processing Technician students and CPD Tech I duties.
• Address equipment and supply issues in accordance with policies and AAMI standards.
• Provide input into staff evaluations and assist with staff development on shift.
• Serve as a role model and resource to peers regarding processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies.

About The Unit

This unit is a level 2 trauma center with 20 operating rooms in our Area D tower and 6 procedure rooms in our Area A suite. Approximately 45% of our cases are comprised of total joints and ortho cases. The remaining 55% of cases are comprised of General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, Spine, Vascular and ENT surgeries. Troy Central Processing is a direct supporting unit for surgery. Daily, CPD produces anywhere from 450-750 instrument trays, we service the operating rooms and all the supporting ancillary units within the hospital that require the use of sterile equipment. We have two types of sterilization processes on site, high temperature steam and low temperature hydrogen peroxide and utilize state of the art equipment to ensure that our patients are provided clean, sterile instrumentation for each surgical procedure in house. Central processing is a team environment, as technicians, coordinators and central processing support staff work together to ensure that our patients, OR team and the surgeons have everything they need to have a successful surgery.

Scope of work

Assists in overseeing and directing/precepting the workflow of the Central Processing Technician students and CPD Tech I's duties as well as equipment and supply issues in work area in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Provides input into the staff evaluations and assists with staff development on shift, as appropriate. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent Required
• 2 years of relevant experience. Sterile processing technician experience or related sterile processing
• Successful completion of sterile processing program (internal or external) Required
• Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Tech (CSPDT) – CBSPD - Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution Upon Hire Required Or
• Registered Central Services Technician, Certified (CRCST) – IAHCSMM - International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Upon Hire Required
