Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Utilities Systems Operator at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System in Prescott, AZ. The role focuses on operating boilers, chillers, and associated systems to ensure continuous facility operations and emergency repairs 24/7.

The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Utility System Operator within Maintenance & Operations at NAVAHCS and works rotating shifts across all facility utilities and energy management tasks.

Qualifications

• To qualify, meet all requirements by closing date of announcement.
• Experience length not required; show evidence of training or experience.
• Evidence must be detailed on resume to prove knowledge and ability.
• Applicants rated under OPM Federal Wage System standards.
• Screen-out element first; those not meeting minimal requirements are eliminated.
• Note: a full year equals 35-40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Operates, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs a modern central power plant on rotating shifts.
• Ensures continuous utility operations and energy monitoring for the medical center.
• Starts, regulates, and stops air handling equipment from central computer or local switches.
• Monitors safety systems, pollution controls, pumps, fans, and related equipment.
• Performs load-based adjustments to meet local requirements and conditions.
• Works on rotating shifts 24/7/365 including evenings, nights, and weekends.
