Westtown School is seeking an experienced Central Plant Technician to join our year-round facilities team. The role covers preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and upkeep of the central energy plant and campus plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems at our independent day and boarding school in West Chester, PA.

The position is full-time with comprehensive benefits and a regular 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. schedule, Monday through Friday. Opportunities exist for on-call rotation every 6–7 weeks.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma is required.
• Minimum of three years of equivalent experience in commercial, educational, or residential facilities maintenance.
• Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Must be able to read and understand blueprints, structural drawings, and schematics.
• Knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous materials.
• Must be able to prioritize work and work independently without close supervision.
• Must have a valid Driver's License in order to drive school vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily maintenance of the central boiler plant and monitors performance for efficiency.
• Inspects and maintains energy systems, boilers, piping, valves, and steam traps.
• Performs general preventative maintenance on campus plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Willing to be trained in new technology and building automation systems and obtain licenses as required.
• Maintains professional relationships with students, staff, and community members.
• Remains committed to safe work practices and energy conservation; reports hazards.

Job description

Westtown School seeks an experienced Central Plant Technician to join our year-round facilities team. This role is responsible for the preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and upkeep of our central energy plant and campus-wide plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. We are seeking a versatile, hands-on facilities expert to join a collaborative team at our independent day and boarding school in West Chester, PA.

This is a year-round, full-time position with full benefits, including Paid Time Off, paid holidays and breaks, health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement contributions, tuition remission, long-term and short-term disability coverage, and life insurance. Meals and uniforms are also provided. The regular hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, the Facilities Mechanic participates in the Mechanic-On-Call rotation for emergency requests every 6 to 7 weeks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs daily maintenance of the central boiler plant. Monitors systems performance with continuous attention to efficiency and repair needs. Maintains equipment records for scheduling of maintenance, ordering of repair parts, and optimal utilization of resources;
• Inspection, preventative maintenance, cleaning, adjustment, repair, and replacement of energy systems such as boilers, heaters, piping, pressure-regulating valves, and steam traps;
• Performs general preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on campus plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems;
• Willingness to be trained in new technology, such as building automation systems, and obtain professional licenses required by the School;
• Maintains professional relationships with all community members at all times. Maintains knowledge of school property and staff as required to perform assigned duties;
• Remains committed to safe work practices and energy conservation at all times. Reports unsafe conditions or suspicious activity as necessary;
• Participates in departmental meetings/training as necessary;
• Facilities team members are considered essential personnel and, as such, are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations;
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly
• Lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 100 lbs. occasionally and with assistance
• Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods
• Must be able to climb ladders
• Must be able to push and pull heavy loads
• Able to work in a variety of weather conditions
