Central Elementary Special Education Paraeducator

The North Polk Community School District is a progressive educational community located in the Des Moines metro area just north of Ankeny, serving the communities of Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, and Sheldahl. The District proudly serves over 2,200 learners from preschool through 12th grade in five buildings (West Elementary, PK through 2nd; Central Elementary, PK through 5th; Big Creek Elementary, 3rd through 5th; Middle School, 6th through 8th; and High School, 9th through 12th).

Central Elementary School, located in Alleman, is seeking to hire a special education paraeducator. The ideal candidate is flexible, collaborative, and willing to learn and grow.

Hours and Compensation

7.25 hours per day. $17.82 – $20.11 per hour depending on certification.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Supporting a safe, positive teaching and learning environment.
• Establishing positive and productive relationships.
• Adhering to the implementation and monitoring of students' Individual Education Plans.
• Assisting with the implementation of behavior management plans for individual students.
• Supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral development of students.
• Supervising lunchroom, playground, halls, classroom, and other assigned areas.
• Communicating consistently with teachers, staff, and students.
• Assisting with reinforcing skills taught by the teacher in independent, large group, and small group activities.
• Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and other staff to ensure best practice and supports are in place for students.
• Participating in professional learning opportunities, as appropriate.
• Demonstrating ethical and professional standards of conduct.
• Maintaining confidentiality regarding student educational programming.
