GROWING YEARS EARLY LEARNING CENTER - JOHNSTOWN

FULL TIME - EXEMPT

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY

NO WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS

The Growing Years Early Learning Center of Johnstown offers child care for children from birth through five years of age in a teaching environment that is secure and nurturing and with a curriculum that encourages each child’s creativity and teaches kindergarten readiness skills. This position will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operations of the child care center to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is provided at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes overall responsibility for children’s services in a center and is not directly responsible for a group of children.
  • Greets each child and parents in warm, friendly manner upon arrival at center; facilitates entry into classroom, and separation from parents.
  • Bends, stoops, sits to maintain eye contact while interacting with children.
  • Uses language understood by children; uses voice as a teaching tool; uses low, calm voice.
  • Sets and enforces consistent, realistic limits for children using non-punitive ways of dealing with inappropriate behavior: focuses on behavior, not the child; redirects, distracts, channels disruptive behavior into acceptable outlets; never uses corporal punishment; uses calm firm voice when disciplining children.
  • Actively participates with children, has a plan for each day – goals to be accomplished; shows enthusiasm for the day, coming up with new, interesting ideas and activities.
  • Monitors activities of entire group of children even when dealing with individual children; positions self strategically, looks up often from involvement. (Is able to focus on individual children while being aware of what is happening throughout the classroom, remaining in control in startling or difficult situations; tries to spend time with each child individually.)
  • Documents children’s accidents and inappropriate behavior.
  • Fosters social interactions and guides children to work out increasingly effective ways of settling disputes.
  • Gives tours to prospective parents or other interested parties; sends information to interested clients that are unable to tour the center.
  • Collects and records fees; prepares cash receipts and makes deposits; sends information to ALSM business office.
  • Adjusts staff and/or children to maintain proper ratios in classrooms.
  • Create an atmosphere that is comfortable, home-like, safe, organized and clean.
  • Ensures the child care feeding program is implemented including ordering meals, meal preparation, recording and reporting.
  • Markets the program, stressing the positive aspects of the center.
  • This is a supervisory position that reports to the Center Manager.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Human Services and one year of experience with children; or
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Human Services and two years of experience with children; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Human Services and three years of experience with children; or
  • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education or Human Services and four years of experience with children.
