Job summary

• Student Programming: Develop and implement sustainability education and outreach programs, workshops, and activities for Luther College students.
• Community Engagement: Connect with community partners to develop and implement programs to advance the mission and vision of the Center for Sustainable Communities.
• Leadership: Maintain an elevated profile for sustainability at Luther College by developing productive relations with college leadership, shaping the work of the Center and advancing additional initiatives such as securing external funding for CSC projects, developing student recruitment programming, and/or leading other innovations that promote the mission of the Center.

SUMMARY:

The Director of the Center for Sustainable Communities (CSC) provides leadership and direction to Luther’s sustainability efforts while working collaboratively with campus and community partners.The Director is the face and voice of the CSC and is responsible for developing and implementing programs that serve the Center’s mission to promote sustainability and be a catalyst for change on campus and throughout the Upper Midwest. A successful candidate will have leadershipand communication skills, knowledge and passion about sustainability, and the skills to collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Salary Range: $54,500 - $67,500

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Campus Operations: Provide leadership and collaborate with staff and students on campus sustainability operations including strategies for meeting Luther’sClimate Action Plan and integrating sustainability into all aspects of college operations.
• StudentProgramming: Develop andimplement sustainability education and outreach programs, workshops, and activities for Luther College students. Work with partners to integrate sustainability into campus programming and to engage students in experiential learning.
• Community Engagement: Connect with community partners to develop and implement programs to advance the mission and vision of the Center for Sustainable Communities.
• Leadership: Maintain an elevated profile for sustainability at Luther College by developing productive relations with college leadership, shaping the work of the Center and advancing additional initiatives such as securing external funding for CSC projects, developing student recruitment programming, and/or leading other innovations that promote the mission of the Center.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The director will supervise 1 full time staff plus work study students

EDUCATION andEXPERIENCE:

• Education: Bachelor’s required. Master’s preferred. Degrees in sustainability, sustainable development, environmental science/studies, environmental education, or related field preferred.
• Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.

SKILLS: REQUIRED

• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Strong speaking, listening, and writing skills
• Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills including ability to manage budgets and supervise staff
• Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college
• Knowledge of sustainability, preferably in a residential liberal arts college context, with enthusiasm for continued learning

SKILLS: PREFERRED

• Experience working on sustainability programs or initiatives on a college campus and/or in local communities
• Grant-writing and fundraising skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Some lifting; majority of work will be in an office environment
