Job summary

Oakland Schools seeks a Center Based Special Education Paraprofessional to support instructional activities and student care at Lamphere Center. You will assist teachers, supervise students with various needs, and help implement behavior and health-related procedures.

Typical duties include preparing activities, supervising small groups at multiple sites, and maintaining data and reports. A High School diploma and readiness for CPR/training are required, with competitive hourly pay and benefits

Qualifications

• High School graduate, or equivalent
• Advanced training in a special education instructional aide program approved by the department
• Experience working with students with emotional impairments, autism spectrum disorder, cognitive impairments, or physical disabilities
• Willingness to conduct physical management and care procedures as trained
• Willingness to be trained in CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques
• Good health and stamina for duties and positive attitude toward students
• Ability to manage students in school and community settings
• Basic computer literacy and familiarity with instructional support equipment

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation, implementation and record-keeping of instructional activities under supervision
• Conduct small-group training at various sites including non-classroom locations
• Provide instructional assistance under direction of teachers
• Supervise and monitor students with medical conditions and implement procedures as assigned
• Implement behavior management plans and crisis intervention procedures
• Perform physical care procedures (feeding, bathing, toileting, transfers)
• Enter data and prepare reports on computer as designated
• Participate in professional development and meetings
• Care for instructional materials when appropriate
• Other duties as assigned
