Job summary

Virginia Department of Veterans Services in Suffolk, VA, seeks a Cemetery Caretaker Manager to join the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery Management Team.

You will oversee safe operations of cemetery grounds and burial processes, verify grave sites and memorial placements, and train staff in map usage and SOPs. Responsibilities include supervising subordinates, operating cemetery equipment, and maintaining an efficient, methodical cemetery function.

Qualifications

• Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiar with turf management, including trees/shrubbery and flower beds.

Responsibilities

• Operate cemetery grounds and burial processes safely with the management team.
• Verify graves/cremations/memorial sites and placement before opening; document completion.
• Train staff to use section maps and SOPs for grave/cremation sites and memorial placements.
• Supervise subordinates to safely perform daily tasks using cemetery equipment to maintain operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Cemetery Superintendent or Cemeteries Director.
