Job summary

Wayfinder Beer in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a production-minded cellar person with 2+ years of experience in a production brewery.

The cellar position is 40 hours per week with potential for overtime and reports to the Brewmaster. Responsibilities include keg washing, fermentation management, packaging, and meticulous record keeping, all while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform functions per Wayfinder Beer policies and procedures.

• Execute production duties: keg washing, cellar prep, fermentation, filtration, transfer, bright beer handling, packaging.
• Maintain brewing, cellaring, documentation.
• Perform basic sensory analysis of beers and ingredients.
• Ensure beer is produced to standards and specifications.
• Explain technical information and follow instructions.
• Work in a small team and communicate effectively.
• Participate in festivals and promotional events.

Wayfinder is a vaguely sinister, lager-centric brewery restaurant located in the Southeast Industrial District of Portland, Oregon and is committed to making compelling and clean lagers and ales.

We are looking for a production-minded, cellar person. Ideal candidates will have 2+years working in a production brewery.

The cellar position will work 40hrs per week with potential for overtime

Reports to: Brewmaster

Job Description:

Wayfinder Beer’s Brewers must maintain high standards and properly execute all functions of the brewery according to policy and procedure, safety requirements, and best practices.

Job Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

• Perform all job functions within the structure described in Wayfinder Beer’s Employee Handbook of Policies and Procedures
• Attend brewery staff meetings as required
• Ensure a clean working environment and uphold all local Health Department rules and regulations
• Follow best practices and safety requirements dutifully
• Efficiently and effectively execute production duties including following keg washing, cellar preparation work, fermentation management, filtration, transferring, bright beer handling, packaging - kegging and can line duties
• Maintain brewing, cellaring, clarification and other related documentation in an organized and complete manner
• Perform basic sensory analysis of beers and raw ingredients throughout fermentation and packaging
• Ensure that all beer is produced to standards and specifications
• Exhibit the ability to explain technical information, ideas and concepts
• Exhibit the ability to listen and follow instructions
• Exhibit the ability to work on a small team and communicate effectively
• Participate in festivals and promotional events as needed

Job Requirements:

• A well-rounded knowledge of brewing, beer styles and beer knowledge
• Able to work and communicate well with others
• Organized and detail oriented; accurate record keeping skills
• Clean and maintain high standards of cleanliness in brewery
• Basic troubleshooting skills in a brewing/manufacturing setting

Physical Requirements:

• Lift 55 lbs. from ground to shoulder high
• Lift 75 lbs. from ground to waist high and move 150 lbs. along the floor
• Climb stairs, ramps, and ladders
• Work in small and confined spaces
• Work safely with chemicals with reasonable safety accommodationsWork in a loud environment with basic safety accommodations
• Read, write and calculate basic algebra
• Follow safety guidelines and adhere to PPE standards
