Job summary

Morgan Advanced Materials in Severn, MD, is seeking a Cell Engineer to set up and approve equipment, ensure product quality, and drive lean improvements on the shop floor.

You will lead 6S initiatives, read drawings, train operators, and work with maintenance to minimize downtime while applying SPC to improve process quality. This role requires attention to detail, strong teamwork, and a commitment to safety in a high-precision ceramics manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • NVQ/City & Guilds in engineering or equivalent desirable.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar engineering role in a production environment.
  • Experience with ceramics manufacturing processes and materials is beneficial.
  • Yellow Belt in lean manufacturing techniques is desirable.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 would be advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with a strong focus on performance.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Safely set up and approve equipment for operation, ensuring required product quality standards are achieved.
  • Read engineering drawings, customer drawings and quality documentation to verify product dimensions.
  • Lead 6S initiatives to improve the working environment and increase process productivity.
  • Work with production, engineering and maintenance teams to develop maintenance schedules and complete basic planned maintenance, reducing downtime.
  • Lead projects with suppliers of consumables, equipment and tooling to improve machine output.
  • Train operators to use production equipment safely and effectively.
  • Train other Cell Engineers as needed to support flexibility and maintain a multi-skilled setting team.
  • Assist operators with machine adjustments when required.
  • Use measuring equipment to confirm components meet specification.
  • Support quality and engineering teams with new business trials and process improvement activities.
  • Apply SPC methodology to improve process quality.
  • Support continuous improvement events and quality circle meetings.
  • Work with the Operations team to deliver key strategic projects that support departmental and site objectives as required.
  • Promote a strong EHS culture by reviewing and addressing safety performance indicators, keeping EHS policies, procedures and statutory documentation up to date, and ensuring employees are trained, competent and supported to work safely.
  • Follow all health and safety requirements and maintain a clean, organised working environment.

Overview

The Cell Engineer supports operations by setting up and approving equipment to run safely and efficiently. This skilled role requires strong attention to detail to ensure products meet specification limits and customer quality expectations.

You will develop processes and lead improvement projects that increase operational output and reduce manufacturing costs in line with site key performance indicators. A key focus will be championing 6S initiatives, maintaining a safe working environment and applying lean manufacturing principles at shop-floor level.
