Job summary

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is seeking CEI Technicians to support NCDOT projects in North Carolina. The role involves daily monitoring of paving, concrete, and earthwork to ensure materials meet specifications, plus field inspection and recording daily notes for staff.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years in highway construction, NC erosion control certification, and strong English communication skills.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent required; technical college coursework in engineering preferred.
  • 2+ years of highway construction or asphalt roadway experience.
  • Experience in DOT QC/inspection work with current certifications is required.
  • Experience as a Certified Erosion Control Inspector in NC is required.
  • Strong written and communication skills in English.

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is one of the fastest-growing full-service transportation consulting and design firms in the Southeast. We specialize in highways, bridges/structures, hydrology, and aviation design. We are adding experienced Roadway Inspectors to our award-winning North Carolina Construction Engineering and Inspection team. We are hiring CEI Technicians of varying levels of experience to support NCDOT projects.

Summary

The CEI Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring activities of asphalt paving, concrete, and earthwork for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials meet specifications. In addition, the position will perform engineering inspection activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt for construction applications. The inspector will be required to record daily notes for engineering staff.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all materials, procedures, and safety rules comply with the latest NCDOT standards.

  • Record daily construction inspection notes for CEI document management.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and client representatives.

  • Must use diplomacy in difficult and stressful situations.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • HS diploma or equivalent required; technical college coursework in engineering preferred.
  • 2 or more years of highway construction or asphalt roadway experience.
  • Experience in DOT QC/inspection work required with current certifications is required.
  • Experience as a Certified Erosion Control Inspector in the state of North Carolina.
  • Strong written and communication skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn new technology.
  • Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.
  • Current driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
Physical Demands

This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds sometimes on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. The employee must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures and work in various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites and heavy equipment.

Expected Hours of Work

This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.
