LOCATION: Several positions are available in Canon City, CO. This posting will be used to fill future vacancies at this location.
This full-time role involves providing routine and emergency dental care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to offenders in the Colorado Department of Corrections. Responsibilities include:
- Providing professional diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology in routine and emergency settings;
- Delivering dental services such as diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, oral surgery, and prosthetic procedures;
- Developing patient treatment plans adhering to agency and professional standards;
- Diagnosing and treating dental diseases or referring offenders to specialists;
- Participating in restraint procedures for medical reasons if required;
- Communicating with outside providers and internal staff to ensure continuity of care;
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals on offender health issues, policies, and legal concerns;
- Participating in decision-making committees to resolve systemic issues;
- Developing policies, protocols, and standards;
- Maintaining health records related to dental care and offender management;
- Responding to grievances and participating in clinic operations including infection control and safety regulations;
- Planning workloads and supervising staff;
- Ensuring compliance with statutes and standards;
- Providing guidance to dental staff and supervising clinical tasks as per legal requirements;
- Scheduling and managing dental treatments efficiently;
- Educating patients on preventive and self-care practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current, valid Dentist license issued by the Colorado Dental Board;

- Experience with populations such as indigent, underserved, community-based, or institutional settings is preferred;
- Ability to provide dental care in correctional facilities, with a thorough understanding of dental standards and guidelines;
- Excellent communication skills, team orientation, and ability to read and write fluently in English;
- Ability to create accessible, plain-language documents;
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across programs and with external stakeholders.
