Job summary

FedEx is seeking a Yard Switcher in Santa Fe Springs, CA to move trailers between yards and doors, and assist with loading/unloading and sorting of packages in a safe, efficient manner.

Responsibilities include coordinating trailer movements, performing pre/post-trip checks, and using yard equipment and scanners. A valid CDL-A license and DOT compliance are required; 21+ years old; may need to work in varied temperatures and loud environments.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid CDL-A and maintain a DOT file.
• 21+ years old to qualify for the role.
• Ability to understand and follow safety instructions.
• Ability to sort packages by numbers and use yard tools.

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches defined as hooking and moving a parked trailer from the yard to a load/unload door or from a door to the yard.
• Communicates with management and/or central control to coordinate trailer movements in the yard.
• Documents trailer moves using the Yard Management System (where available) or switcher cards
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Understands and demonstrates effective yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned
