Job summary

NRT Bus, Inc. in Massachusetts is hiring a full-time school bus driver to safely transport students to and from school, with a 40-hour workweek that may include evenings or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a motor vehicle transporting students.
• Safely operate a variety of vehicles including school buses, sedans, and wheelchair vans.
• Assist students entering/exiting and secure restraints.
• Monitor student behavior and provide guidance and direction.
• Report unsafe behavior and follow management directions.
• Communicate via two-way radio with the Van Pool team.
• Complete assigned duties and special projects.

Essential Job Duties

This position is a full-time driverpositionand employee must work40 hoursperweekwhich may include nights and weekends. Key duties of the role:

• Safelyoperatea motor vehicle,in accordance withall State and Federal traffic laws, while driving school-aged children.
• Safelyoperatea variety of vehicles, includingSchool buses,sedans, mini-vans, full size passenger vans, and wheelchair vans.
• Safelyassiststudents as needed. This includes helping them enter and exit the vehicle, using the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belts, and safely securing them in car seats and booster seats. Lifting may berequired.
• Monitor student behavior to provide appropriate guidance, feedback, and direction when necessary.
• Report unsafe and inappropriate student behavior to management; follow directions and implement corrective steps as assigned.
• Must demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills while using Van Pool’s two-way radio system.
• Assigned duties and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Currentlyhave a CDL license withactiveschool bus certificate andmaintainlicense throughout employment.
• Ability tocommunicate effectively and clearly in (English) with students, parents, teachers, andcompany employees.
• Followwritten and verbal directions and instructions from supervisors.
• Willingness to work effectively with school age children with special needs.
• PassCORI, SORI, TB, fingerprint tests, Initial and random drug screenings.
• Passannual physical to obtain or renew a 7D School Pupil Transport Licenseor CDL school bus certificate.

Physical Requirements

• Sit for extended periods of time.
• Lift, push, pull,enterand exit the vehicle multiple timesin order toconduct a thorough inspection for student safety.
• PerformFirst Aid and CPR during training and during an actual emergency.
• Completea pre and post trip vehicle inspectionwhich may include removingsnow and ice from the vehicle during the winter weather.
• Assiststudents on and off the van inthe caseof an emergency.
• Positionwheelchairs and safely install and secure wheelchair restraints.
• Manuallyoperatethe wheelchair lift when necessary.
• Must have the physical capability to safely install car seats and booster seats.

Full Time DriverExpectations

• Must be willing to service a route at any location withing driving distance of home location.
• The company will offer a vehicle for transportation to and from home base to any other location where a route is covered.
• The employee will be compensated from the time they are told to report to the home location until they return
• If the employee is staying at the temporary location for the day, they are expected to help the local operations with daily tasks.
• Non-driving expectations:full timespare driversare required towork 40 hours minimum.To accumulate40hoursina week theyare required toperform other duties in addition to driving. Those include and are not limited to:
• Shuttling vehicles or staff
• Snow team
• Parts and supplies pickup
• Mail runs
• Assistingmaintenance with inspections
• Trainingnew driverson routes
