Job summary

The City of Glendale AZ seeks a skilled heavy equipment operator to run street sweepers, sanitation trucks and related machinery in the Sanitation Division of the Public Works Department.

Responsibilities include daily logs, basic maintenance, safety checks, and delivering containers to customers. A Class B CDL with the FMCSA drug/alcohol requirements is required, with safety-sensitive testing prior to employment.

Qualifications

• One year of experience operating heavy automotive and specialized equipment.
• Class B CDL required; may require medical card and clean driving record.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Operate street sweeper, one-man sanitation truck, 40-yard container, truck and trailer.
• Operate brush tractor with grapple buckets, hand load rear-loaders, balers, sorting lines, crane trucks and forklifts.
• Fill street sweeper water tanks and regulate water supply valves.
• Empty containers into the sanitation truck and operate the hydraulic packer for refuse; identify non-collectable waste.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Safety checks on equipment and monitor refuse/sortation quality.
• Keep daily logs of work, mileage, tons dumped and equipment condition.
• Operate CDL-required city vehicles and complete accident reports and time sheets.
• Deliver and repair containers for commercial and residential customers.
• Coordinate with public while resolving sanitation service problems.
• Adhere to FMCSA drug/alcohol testing requirements; participate in required testing.
