Position Summary
Residential Front Load Drivers are responsible for servicing customers on an assigned route (or routes) with the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. The position requires the ability to operate different trucks and excellent driving/maneuvering skills.
Shift
5:30 AM – 7:30 PM M‑F
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks in a safe and compliant manner to provide trash or recycling removal services to customers by emptying trash/recycling carts into truck and hauling to disposal site.
- May be required to pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings.
- Replace trash/recycling carts neatly at the curb or designated area.
- Clean up waste spills and overflows.
- Maintain and update route sheets.
- Maintain cleanliness of truck cab.
- Conduct daily pre‑trip/post‑trip inspections and complete DVIR logs.
- Professionally interact with internal and external customers.
- Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body while following proper Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position will not manage employees.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and understand a map and/or navigation system.
- Ability to drive all types of trucks in residential fleet.
- Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills.
- General knowledge of truck mechanics.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.
Experience & Knowledge
- Waste industry experience, a plus.
- Previous CDL driving preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 20 lbs.
- Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 50 lbs.
- Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 100 lbs.
- Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions.
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
- Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
- Frequently climbing and/or balancing.
- Continuously sitting.
- Occasionally standing/walking.
Additional Working Conditions & Requirements
- Must have at least a valid Class B CDL.
- Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or be able to obtain one prior to hire.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- No more than three moving violations within the last two years.
- Must not have any DUI’s or OVI’s within the last five years or two in the last ten years.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre‑employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
