Job summary

Rumpke Waste & Recycling is seeking a CDL driver to provide reliable waste collection across assigned routes in Kentucky. You will operate trucks, perform pre-trip inspections, and ensure safe dumping procedures while maintaining road safety and customer service standards.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of CDL experience, familiarity with front-load trucks, and a strong commitment to safety. The role involves varying shifts, potential overtime, and working outdoors in changing conditions.

Qualifications

• Ability to enter/exit the truck 100–150 times per day.
• Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills.
• General knowledge of truck mechanics.
• Good written and verbal communication with customers.
• Must read and speak English well enough to communicate and follow safety training.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks in a safe manner to provide trash or recycling removal services to customers on assigned route(s) and/or work orders.
• Maintain route sheets and update as needed.
• Conduct daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections and complete DVIR logs.
• Maintain cleanliness of truck cab and inspect containers for safe dumping.
• Service approximately 100–150 commercial customers per day.
• Interact professionally with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities Of Position

• Operate trucks in a safe manner to provide trash or recycling removal services to customers on assigned route(s) and/or work orders by emptying trash/recycling containers into trucks and hauling them to a disposal site
• Maintains and updates route sheets
• Conduct daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections and complete DVIR logs
• Maintain cleanliness of truck cab
• Visually inspect front load containers to ensure safe dumping procedures
• Clean up areas located around containers when servicing customers as needed
• Open and secure service gates while servicing customers
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body while following proper Lock Out/Tag Out procedures
• Service approximately 100 – 150 commercial customers per day
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed For Position

• Ability to read and understand a map and/or navigation system
• Required to enter/exit the truck approximately 100-150 times per day
• Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills
• General knowledge of truck mechanics
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed For Position

• 1-2 CDL truck driving experience preferred
• Front Load truck driving experience preferred
• Waste industry experience, a plus

Physical Requirements In a Regular Workday

• Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects

• Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
• Must have a at least 19 years of age
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
