Job summary

The City of Tacoma is hiring a Sewer Equipment Operator to load, operate and maintain sewer maintenance trucks and equipment. You will respond to emergencies, assist crews, and help ensure public safety around sewer systems.

Requires a Washington State CDL Class A with N endorsement, and prior experience with sewer equipment. The role follows a 9/80 schedule with 24-hour call-out for emergencies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Two (2) years as a sewer worker or equivalent experience, including training operating sewer equipment.

Responsibilities

• Load and prepare trucks and equipment; transport crew and materials.
• Clean, service and maintain assigned trucks and equipment.
• Communicate with the public on sewer-related issues; respond to emergencies.
• Assist sewer crew workers with maintenance and repair duties.
• Set up work areas and traffic safety devices as required.
• Assess sewer systems with GIS/electronic tools.
• Direct crew to complete tasks safely.
• Maintain records and logs of daily work orders and truck sheets.
