Job summary

Iowa Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Technician to inspect construction projects in the summer and assist maintenance garages with snow removal operations in the winter. You will contribute to safer roadways by conducting routine sampling, inspection, and testing of materials used in highway construction.

Responsibilities include maintaining construction records, informing contractors of quality issues, operating snow equipment, and performing routine maintenance of DOT equipment

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency and experience in highway maintenance or related fields.
• Two years of education and/or full-time experience in highway maintenance, inspection, or surveying equals one year of experience.
• Current, continuous state employment with eighteen months in related Highway Technician roles may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction projects and maintain records.
• Inform contractors of quality issues and non-complying work.
• Operate snow equipment and perform routine maintenance on DOT assets.
• Repair and maintain guardrails, signs, fences, and lighting.
