Job summary

The City of Sioux City is seeking an Automotive Mechanic I to maintain and repair light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles at the Central Maintenance Garage. The role is full‑time with a 10:30am–7:00pm schedule, call‑out coverage, and overtime during snow events.

Starting wage is $26.4474 per hour. Applicants must obtain a Class A CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsements within six months of hire. Residency within thirty miles is required; tools and uniforms are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; vocational training in automotive mechanics preferred.
• Two to three years of automotive repair experience recommended; valid CDL and endorsements required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform major overhaul and repair of automotive engines, transmissions, and motors.
• Diagnose engine malfunctions using computerized diagnostic systems and tools.
• Inspect vehicles and perform preventive maintenance and repairs, including brakes and tires.
• Respond to emergency service calls and fabricate/repair components as needed.
• Operate within safety standards and maintain shop clean and organized.
