Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee to begin the path toward important certifications and learn to operate heavy maintenance equipment. This entry-level role provides structured training and guidance from experienced team members on a public works crew.

You will gain hands-on experience with trucks, loaders, safety procedures, and daily reporting while working a 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM schedule, Monday through Friday. Starting salary is $42,347 per year.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License on first day.
• Active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on first day.
• Active Medical Examiner's Certificate per FMCSA regulations on first day.
• Ability to operate equipment with a manual transmission.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other maintenance equipment.
• Use hand tools and power tools for basic tasks safely and correctly.
• Follow safety procedures, wear protective gear, and report hazards or incidents.
• Perform basic inspections, adjustments, and documentation for equipment.
