Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a CDL truck driver to service routes with safety-first practices, performing pre/post-trip inspections, and maintaining accurate route logs. You will interact with customers and operate front‑load trucks on a daily basis.

Candidates should have a valid Class B CDL, DOT Medical Card, and 1–2 years of CDL experience; heavy emphasis on safety, punctuality, and ability to work nights or weekends as needed. High school diploma preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of CDL truck driving experience preferred.
• Experience with front-load trucks is a plus.
• Ability to read maps or use a navigation system.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks in a safe manner to provide trash or recycling removal services on assigned routes, dumping containers into trucks and transporting to disposal sites.
• Maintain and update route sheets and complete pre-trip/post-trip inspections with DVIR logs.
• Interact professionally with internal and external customers and service 100–150 commercial accounts daily.
• Maintain truck cleanliness, inspect front load containers, and assist with surrounding areas as needed.
• Work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and comply with lock-out/tag-out safety procedures.

Responsibilities of Position

• Operate trucks in a safe manner to provide trash or recycling removal services to customers on assigned route(s) and/or work orders by emptying trash/recycling containers into trucks and hauling them to a disposal site
• Maintain and update route sheets
• Conduct daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections and complete DVIR logs
• Maintain cleanliness of truck cab
• Visually inspect front load containers to ensure safe dumping procedures
• Clean up areas located around containers when servicing customers as needed
• Open and secure service gates while servicing customers
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body while following proper lock‑out/tag‑out procedures
• Service approximately 100–150 commercial customers per day
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed

• Ability to read and understand a map and/or navigation system
• Required to enter/exit the truck approximately 100–150 times per day
• Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills
• General knowledge of truck mechanics
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed

• 1–2 years of CDL truck driving experience preferred
• Front Load truck driving experience preferred
• Waste industry experience, a plus

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday

• Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 50 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions

• Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or be able to obtain prior to hire
• Must be at least 19 years of age
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver's license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
