Job summary

Rumpke Waste & Recycling in Bloomington, IN is seeking a Front Load Driver to service commercial customers on assigned routes, hauling waste and recycling to disposal sites. You will operate trucks safely, perform pre/post trip inspections, and maintain route efficiency.

The role requires a valid Class B CDL, clean driving record, DOT medical card, and ability to work nights and weekends. Candidates should be able to read maps, communicate clearly, and handle physical demands of the job.

Qualifications

• Must have valid Class B CDL and safe driving history.
• DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire.
• Must be at least 19 years old.
• Clean driving record with no DUI/OVI in last 5 years.
• Ability to read and speak English clearly.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks safely to remove trash/recycling on assigned routes.
• Maintain and update route sheets; inspect vehicle daily.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip DVIR logs and keep truck clean.
• Interact professionally with customers and protect company assets.
• Work with 100–150 stops per day on commercial routes.

Front Load Drivers are responsible for servicing commercial customers on an assigned route(s) with the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. Drivers will dump front-load containers utilizing the forks of the truck but may be required to pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings.

Responsibilities Of Position

• Operate trucks in a safe manner to provide trash or recycling removal services to customers on assigned route(s) and/or work orders by emptying trash/recycling containers into trucks and hauling them to a disposal site
• Maintains and updates route sheets
• Conduct daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections and complete DVIR logs
• Maintain cleanliness of truck cab
• Visually inspect front load containers to ensure safe dumping procedures
• Clean up areas located around containers when servicing customers as needed
• Open and secure service gates while servicing customers
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body while following proper Lock Out/Tag Out procedures
• Service approximately 100 – 150 commercial customers per day
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed For Position

• Ability to read and understand a map and/or navigation system
• Required to enter/exit the truck approximately 100-150 times per day
• Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills
• General knowledge of truck mechanics
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed For Position

• 1-2 CDL truck driving experience preferred
• Front Load truck driving experience preferred
• Waste industry experience, a plus

Physical Requirements In a Regular Workday

• Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects

• Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
• Must have at least 19 years of age
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
