Job summary

GDOT seeks an entry‑level Transportation Specialist 1 to provide CDL and equipment training, working under supervision to support OMAT and related programs. You will schedule classes, maintain records, evaluate learners, and serve as the CDL contact, coordinating with statewide exam staff.

The role requires CDL eligibility, strong communication, and ability to travel district-wide; training may occur in classrooms or outdoors in varying conditions.

Qualifications

  • State Entry Qualifications: Bachelor's or Associate’s degree, or 1 year of related experience.
  • Agency Minimum Qualifications: CDL and CMV experience or 2+ years as a BTW CMV instructor.
  • Agency Preferred Qualifications: Class A CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsements and related CDL training experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and training delivery skills.
  • Willingness to travel district wide and occasionally statewide.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct CDL and Equipment training and distribute learning materials.
  • Organize calendars and schedule class dates with adequate field coverage.
  • Maintain training records and secure sensitive information.
  • Evaluate participants against learning objectives.
  • Serve as the point of contact for CDL and equipment questions.
  • Coordinate exam dates and certification information with Statewide CDL Examiners.
  • Update leadership on changes, trends and metrics.
