Clean Harbors in Baton Rouge is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (CleanPack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and company policies. This position involves working both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites, and assisting with lab packs, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves. This is a customer-facing role, working at customer sites daily. Note: This role is not laboratory-based.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize health and safety by following all safety policies and procedures
  • Prepare packing lists, labels, manifests, and disposal notifications
  • Inspect storage areas and drums for leaks, spills, and compliance with labeling regulations
  • Properly package and segregate waste chemicals for disposal
  • Perform jobs at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies
  • Ensure all shipments meet OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company standards
  • Conduct sampling and profiling of waste streams as needed
  • Verify drum counts and conditions for shipment readiness
  • Operate vehicles safely according to applicable regulations
  • Follow all environmental health and safety guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's license
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to obtain CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsements within 6 months
  • Ability to perform physical tasks as required
  • Successful background check, drug test, and physical
  • Compliance with OSHA's facial hair standards if respirators are used

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
  • Experience in environmental services (remediation, abatement, spill response, etc.)

This entry-level position offers a pathway into management and other roles within Clean Harbors. Training is accelerated, and successful employees can transfer internally across our 200+ locations. After approximately 18-36 months, there are opportunities to move into salaried management positions.
