Job summary

Russel Metals USA Inc. is seeking a Class A CDL driver to safely transport materials and uphold DOT compliance. You will perform pre-trip inspections, secure loads, and coordinate with the shipping team to meet delivery windows.

The role requires at least two years of flat-bed hauling experience, a valid Class A CDL with a clean MVR/PSP, and strong communication skills to interact with customers and colleagues.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Transport materials to designated delivery points following safety policies.
  • Secure loads with straps or chains to prevent movement during transit.
  • Check load and ensure all materials are on the truck before departure.
  • Maintain records per DOT requirements and company policy.
  • Coordinate with Transportation/Shipping for delays, returns, or questions on deliveries.
  • Provide professional interaction with customers and maintain a neat appearance.
  • Complete required documentation and assist with deliveries as needed.

Its network of metals service centers carries an extensive line of metal products in a wide range of sizes, shapes and specifications, including carbon hot rolled and cold finished steel, pipe and tubular products, stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous specialty metals. Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers. Its steel distributors operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis.

Job Summary

Responsible for the transportation of material and safe operation of company provided vehicle to meet customer delivery requirements.

Essential Functions

Job Title: Class A CDL Driver

  • Understands and follows all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Follows all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Strap, chain and secure materials to ensure safe transport to designated delivery point.
  • Checks load for proper loading and that all materials are on the truck prior to departing.
  • Ensures any necessary repairs required are made to truck or trailer prior to departure.
  • Operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with local jurisdictions.
  • Maintain records/electronic logs as prescribed by DOT and Company policy.
  • Operate company issued electronic and/or communication equipment professionally and respectfully.
  • Maintain a professional presentation and interaction with customers.
  • Coordinate with Transportation/Shipping department to update any delays/returns or questions on deliveries.
Job Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of two years experience in operating CDL flat-bed hauling.
  • Must have a valid Class A CDL Driver's License and clear MVR and PSP Dashboard record.
  • Report any citations received immediately and take photos of any cited deficiencies.
  • Basic reading and writing comprehension in English (to read instructions, tickets, safety and policy manuals)
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Basic measuring skills to read measuring devices.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
  • Assists customers with identifying materials to be off loaded at delivery location.
  • Verifies material and piece count at point of delivery with customer and signs Bill of Lading (BOL) with date of delivery
  • Completes all documents in Accident Kit with photos if involved in any type of accident.
  • Communication: must be active listener, follow directions, recognize the value of others’ opinions, talk with courtesy and respect, and speak effectively regarding business matters.
  • Time Management: ability to meet job deadlines; prioritize work effectively.
  • Team player: works as a competent member of the team, willingly providing back-up support for co-workers when needed and actively supporting group goals.
  • Attendance & Punctuality: must demonstrate timely arrival & attendance and adapt to business needs schedule changes.
  • Judgment: exhibits sound judgment and makes reasonable decisions within scope of responsibility.
