The CDL Driver I delivers materials to job sites, inspects and maintains trucks, reports shortages and claims to supervisors, and assists in loading and storing materials. Typically, drivers operate trucks with a capacity of more than three tons, including less experienced CDL or tractor trailer drivers. Responsibilities include:

  1. Operating vehicles safely.
  2. Participating in a positive work environment.
  3. Maintaining a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.
  4. Preparing DOT logs of duty and driving hours.
  5. Organizing and securing loads.
  6. Assisting forklift operators during loading.
  7. Checking orders for accuracy.
  8. Delivering and unloading materials to customer satisfaction.
  9. Conducting daily equipment pre-inspections.
  10. Recording returned merchandise and assisting in unloading for credit.
  11. Following DOT guidelines.
  12. Providing excellent customer service.
  13. Relaying messages from customers on-site.
  14. Assisting supervisors and other team members as needed.
  15. Maintaining good housekeeping in yard and warehouse.
  16. Complying with all company policies and safety standards.
  17. Operating truck-mounted forklifts safely and efficiently.
  18. Keeping the truck clean.
  19. Completing assigned training programs.
  20. Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, with CDL experience preferred. Basic CDL experience with flatbeds and/or tractor trailers is required. Skills include basic math, reading, writing, effective communication, conflict resolution, and proficiency with technology such as smartphones and GPS. A Class A CDL license is required, and a Class B CDL is also necessary.

Opportunities for advancement include roles such as CDL Driver II, Long Haul, Wide Load, Boom Crane, and Non-CDL Driver positions, depending on experience.
