Job summary

Laurens County is seeking a dependable CDL Driver/Heavy Equipment Operator to support daily Solid Waste operations. You will safely operate commercial vehicles, including roll-off trucks, dump trucks, and tractors, to transport waste and recyclables throughout the county.

You will also use front-end loaders, excavators, and skid steers to load trailers and manage materials at facilities. The role requires safety focus, physical capability, and the ability to perform pre/post-trip inspections and

Qualifications

• Two (2) to five (5) years of experience operating commercial vehicles and/or heavy equipment in solid waste, public works, construction, transportation, or a related field.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid South Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain the required CDL within an established time frame.
• Experience operating roll-off trucks, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, loaders, excavators, skid steers, or similar equipment is preferred.
• Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and heavy equipment in varying weather and working conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and perform physically demanding work.

Responsibilities

• Operate commercial vehicles and heavy equipment to transport municipal solid waste, recyclables, construction debris, and other materials between county facilities.
• Deliver, exchange, and retrieve roll-off containers following safe loading, hauling, and unloading procedures.
• Load trailers and manage waste materials using front-end loaders, excavators, skid steers, and related equipment.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete required vehicle reports, and identify maintenance needs.
• Comply with all DOT regulations, county policies, environmental regulations, and safety procedures.
• Assist with general solid waste operations, site maintenance, and emergency response activities, interacting courteously with residents and staff.
