Job summary

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) is seeking a CDL Driver for the Norfolk, VA project. You will transport materials and equipment to job sites, coordinate with the Fleet Manager on daily deliveries, and perform routine DOT-compliant inspections and log entries.

Responsibilities include maintaining logs, ensuring safety standards, and reporting issues to the Fleet Manager and Safety Manager. The role may require night/weekend shifts and PPE adherence on site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class B CDL with passenger endorsement.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in oversize loads and trucking preferred.
  • DOT medical certification current or able to secure.
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform basic math for records.

Responsibilities

  • Transport materials and equipment to and from construction sites.
  • Coordinate with Fleet Manager on daily deliveries and logistics.
  • Perform daily pre/post trip inspections per DOT guidelines.
  • Maintain logs of hours of service and deliveries.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear PPE as required.
  • Keep vehicle clean and report issues to supervisors as needed.
  • Occasional nights/weekends with short notice as required.

USD 20.00 - 24.00 Hourly | HRBT Expansion Project in Norfolk, VA, United States Full Time

A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Driver in the construction industry plays a vital role in transporting materials, equipment, and sometimes personnel to and from construction sites. Must coordinate/communicate with Fleet Manager on all daily deliveries or logistics related concerns.

Operates vehicles in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, and other various job sites.

Performs daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.

Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.

Checks fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation.

Keeps accurate log of deliveries and completes required paperwork.

Follow Escort Vehicles for oversize loads to destination to improve and maintain safety.

Monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle.

Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.

Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Fleet Manager, Equipment Manager, and Safety Manager.

Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.

Must keep vehicle in a clean and orderly condition.

Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Three to five years’ experience in oversize loads and trucking preferred.

Valid Class B Driver’s License with passenger endorsement

Work Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Valid current DOT Med Cert and/or able to secure a new DOT Med Cert.

Must pass drug screen.

MVR must meet company and DOT standards.

Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public always.

Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Must maintain current driver’s license that meets state requirements, i.e., CDL, Class A and/or B Driver along with the passenger endorsement.

Must be willing to work nights and weekends, when necessary, with short notice.

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA.

Compliance with all OSHA regulations.

Three to five years’ experience in oversize loads and trucking preferred.

Must have knowledge of DOT specifications.

Thorough operational knowledge and skills of trucks and related equipment to be operated.

Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.

Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations to keep time and material records, and read blueprints or other project documents.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgment.

Must be familiar with securing heavy equipment and other over dimensional loads.

Ability to seek resolutions when issues may arise.

Physical Demands

Job requires climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, frequent lifting of extensions chutes, stretching, sitting/driving, shifting gears, and covering/uncovering load when applicable.

Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.

May require sitting for extended periods of time.

Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to focus.

Able to climb in and out of truck 3-4 steps (elevated 4+ feet into cab). (Could be in and out of truck 20-30 times per day).
