Spherion is hiring a CDL Class B Route Driver to join our waste and recycling collection team in Charles City, IA. This full-time role offers a locally focused schedule with daily home time and a reliable, overtime-eligible pay structure.

Responsibilities include operating Class B trucks on local routes, performing safety inspections, and delivering materials to transfer stations while maintaining high customer service standards. A valid Class B CDL and DOT medical card are required.

Qualifications

• Prior experience driving commercial waste, recycling, or roll-off route trucks.
• Comfort with manual transmission vehicles is a plus.
• Familiarity with local Charles City roads and route planning.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate Class B trucks on designated local routes to collect waste and recyclables.
• Perform daily DOT pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
• Transport materials to transfer stations, landfills, or recycling centers and unload safely.
• Follow dispatch directions, route maps, and work orders efficiently.
• Provide courteous service to residents and commercial accounts.
• Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities:

• Route Operations: Safely operate Class B commercial trucks (e.g., side-loaders, rear-loaders, or roll-offs) along designated local routes to collect waste and recyclable materials.
• Vehicle Safety & Inspections: Complete thorough daily DOT pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure equipment is safe and fully operational.
• Disposal & Hauling: Transport collected materials to designated local transfer stations, landfills, or recycling centers and unload safely.
• Route & Fleet Technology: Follow assigned dispatch directions, electronic route maps, and work orders efficiently.
• Customer Service: Provide courteous, professional service when interacting with residents, commercial accounts, and team members.
• Compliance & Safety: Maintain strict compliance with DOT regulations, local traffic laws, OSHA standards, and company safety guidelines.

Skills:

• Industry Experience: Prior experience driving commercial waste, recycling, or roll-off route trucks.
• Manual Transmission: Comfort operating manual transmission commercial vehicles is a plus.
• Local Route Knowledge: Familiarity with Charles City and the surrounding county roads.

Qualifications:

• Licensing: Valid Class B CDL (or higher).
• Medical: Valid DOT Medical Card (or ability to obtain one).
• Location & Travel: Must be able to reliably commute to Charles City, IA.
• Physical Capability: Ability to repeatedly mount and dismount commercial trucks, bend, lift up to 50+ lbs, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Screening: Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
• Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctual attendance, and a clean safety record.
