Job summary

DHT Group in Gary, IN is seeking CDL-A Hazmat Tanker Owner Operators for our Propane & Butane Division. Join an established carrier with regional freight, 70% of linehaul, and fuel surcharge.

You'll operate propane and butane shipments regionally, with weekly settlements, experienced dispatch, and a safety-focused operation across Indiana and surrounding markets. If you own a DOT-qualified tractor, you can build a long-term business with DHT.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
• 1–2 years of verifiable CDL-A driving experience preferred.
• Safe driving record and ability to meet DOT qualification requirements.
• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather and handling hoses, pumping equipment, and PPE.
• Commitment to safe, professional operation.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport propane and butane (UN1075).
• Operate across Indiana and surrounding regional service areas.
• Load product from regional terminals and deliver to customers.
• Operate pumps, hoses, valves, and tanker equipment.
• Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain DOT compliance and Hours of Service records.

70% of linehaul. Fuel surcharge. Weekly settlements. Specialized propane and butane freight.

Regional Operation - Weekly Home Time

• Regional operation serving Gary, Indiana, and surrounding markets
• Home every week
• Typical operating schedule of approximately 5 days on the road followed by 2 days home
• One weekend day availability required
• Consistent work during peak propane season

What You'll Do

• Safely transport propane and butane (UN1075)
• Operate throughout Indiana and surrounding regional service areas
• Load product from regional terminals including Griffith, Danville, and Lebanon, Indiana, and Monee, Illinois
• Deliver safely and professionally to DHT customers
• Operate pumps, hoses, valves, and tanker equipment
• Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Maintain applicable DOT compliance
• Maintain accurate ELD and Hours of Service records
• Represent DHT professionally at terminals, customer locations, and on the road

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL
• Hazmat (H) endorsement required
• Tanker (N) endorsement required; combined X endorsement accepted
• 1-2 years of verifiable CDL-A driving experience preferred
• Safe driving record
• Ability to meet applicable DOT qualification requirements
• Ability to work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to safely handle hoses, valves, pumping equipment, and required PPE
• Commitment to safe, professional operation

Tanker Experience

Experience hauling propane, butane, LPG, anhydrous ammonia, refined fuel, or other bulk liquid/gas commodities is strongly preferred.

Drivers with transferable tanker experience are encouraged to apply.

Equipment Requirements

• DOT-compliant tractor
• Must pass DHT equipment inspection before sign-on
• Electronic Logging Device (ELD) required
• Hydrapak/wet kit required to power trailer hydraulic offloading equipment
• Current registration and insurance
• Equipment must meet applicable DHT, DOT, and regulatory requirements
