Job description

Safety is our number one priority for this position. The Truck Driver’s main goal is to move material where we need it. They are required to drive a semi-truck to customers’ yards, collect fully loaded containers, and return empty containers. Drivers must conduct themselves professionally when dealing with customers and their employees, follow all DOT Regulations and in‑yard rules, and wear seat belts at all times while driving. Drivers must also be visible on camera throughout shifts.

Job Duties

• Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
• Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
• Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
• Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
• Work independently when driving scrap metal.
• Assist customers to satisfy their needs and resolve problems.
• Collaborate with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
• Perform normal daily operation maintenance: refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
• Clean up work area at the end of shift.
• Keep work areas neat and orderly.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Organize materials to use space more effectively.
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
• Inspect to ensure cleanup is completed and maintain effective housekeeping for safety and hygiene.

Qualifications

• Must have 3 years of CDL driving experience with a consistent job history.
• Must pass a medical DOT physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check: clean MVR, no recent violations, and consent to Clearing House.
• Preferred: high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
• Bi‑lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
• Ability to communicate effectively, understand directions (written or oral), and use basic math skills as the job demands.
• Experience with roll‑off and end‑dump operations.

Physical Requirements

• Work Environment: scrap metal recycling and shredder yard.
• Equipment & Tools: trucks up to 18‑wheelers, roll‑off, hydraulic tilt/​lift operations, box containers, mechanical tools.
• Physical Demand Level: light to moderate; remains steady when machine is rocking in all directions, climbs fixed ladders.
• Work Capacity: truck driver work capacity.
• Sensory Demands: hearing, vision, touch, smell, taste.
• Hand Movements: repetitive motions, gripping.
