Job summary

Manatee County Government is seeking a Transit Operator to transport citizens in a county passenger bus or van on assigned routes, following a strict schedule and safety standards.

The role requires a Class B CDL with passenger and air brakes endorsements, or a CDL permit, plus passing a DOT physical and background check. Strong English communication and courteous public interaction are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Five years driving experience or two years Commercial Driving Experience.
• Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement, or Class B CDL permit with passenger and air brake endorsements, prior to receiving a Conditional Offer of Employment.
• Must be able to pass the CDL skills test within six weeks with training provided.
• Must successfully pass all tests and written examinations given.
• Must successfully pass a DOT physical and pass a Level 2 background check.
• Must be at least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

• Operates a county passenger bus or van on an assigned route, according to a time schedule, while safely complying with traffic regulations.
• Issues transfers and provides route information to passengers.
• Records operating data on daily trip records, mileage and passenger counts.
• Enforces rules of conduct and ensures passenger safety.
• Performs visual vehicle inspections and reports maintenance needs.
• Communicates clearly, orally and in writing, with the public and dispatchers.
• Establishes working relationships with coworkers, dispatchers and clients.
