Job summary

Congruex is seeking an Equipment Operator for a traveling role in the Midwest. The position involves operating heavy machinery for underground utilities construction or excavation projects with per diem and full benefits. An active CDL Class A is required.

Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, loading/unloading, performing maintenance, and coordinating with supervisors. Travel, safety compliance, and ability to work outdoors are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year prior experience using locating equipment to find underground utilities.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Familiar with locate systems.
  • Ability to operate asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine and other heavy equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and CDL.
  • DOT Medical Card.
  • Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer preferred.
  • Operate equipment safely and follow all safety standards.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Follow OSHA, ANSI standards and company rules.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of basic shoring methods

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
  • Maintain and care for equipment; document job details; communicate with managers daily.
  • Load and haul machines; set up and break down safely.
  • Operate near active utilities and ensure clearance; use shoring systems as needed.
  • Rigging and setting of structures; assist in related activities as required.
  • Place conduits, proof conduits, pothole utilities, and form/pour concrete.
  • Place asphalt and avoid marked utilities; plan around obstacles.
  • Communicate with supervisors for job details; pre-check utilities before use.
  • Inspect equipment and adhere to policies; may work extra hours or weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator will operate heavy machinery for underground utilities construction or excavation projects in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and other obstacles.

**An active CDL class A is required.**

Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)
  • Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
  • Responsible for regular maintenance and care of the assigned heavy equipment, produce any documentation needed for each job, daily communication with managers is a must.
  • Loads and hauls the machine.
  • Drives, sets up, and breaks down safely and efficiently.
  • Operates heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them
  • Rigging and setting of structures
  • Along with operating must be willing to assist in other activities such as but not limited to
  • Placement of conduit in open trenches
  • Proofing conduits
  • Potholing existing utilities
  • Forming and pouring of concrete
  • Placement of asphalt
  • Avoids any marked utilities and implements all precautions to prevent utility strikes.
  • Communicates with supervisors for job details.
  • Before the equipment is utilized, walks path to ensure all utilities have been located and develops a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the path.
  • Inspects and maintains job equipment.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
  • May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1—year prior experience using the locating equipment to find any underground utilities.
  • Must have experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Must be familiar with locate systems.
  • Ability to operate an asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine, and other heavy equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of a commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • DOT Medical Card.
  • Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer is preferred.
  • Must be able to operate the equipment safely.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Must follow all OSHA, ANSI standards, as well as company rules & regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
  • Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear
